KHAP/GG/AKM-GSIIf you thought Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's family couldn't possibly get any bigger, you might be right.
Rumors have swirled that Angie and her hubby were planning on adopting another child from Cambodia, but the Cambodian government is denying such plans after first hearing about them on social media.
(Sidebar: At least we know the government is pretty hip with technology!)
"I saw [the news] on Facebook, but actually it's just a rumor," Sao Samphois, a spokesman for the Ministry of Social Affairs' Inter-Country Adoption Administration (ICAA), told the Phnom Penh Post.
Jolie has been in and out of Cambodia directing a new movie adaptation based on the book, First They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers. Given her lengthy amount of time in the country and reports claiming she was planning to adopt, Samphois understood the rumors but was quick to clarify that the Unbroken director never got in touch with the ICAA.
If that weren't enough evidence to show that the Jolie-Pitt brood would remain at a hefty eight, Samphois also emphasized that adoptions between the U.S. and Cambodia have been illegal since 2001 as a result of trafficking concerns.
"The adoption between the two countries is not yet open," Samphois said.
You might be wondering, "What about Maddox? He was adopted in 2002 from Cambodia." Well, that process wasn't so easy for the A-lister. After the process began the U.S. government halted it for a while before finally deeming it legal.
The Mr. and Mrs. Smith stars have six children: Zahara Jolie-Pitt, Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, Vivienne Jolie-Pitt, Knox Jolie-Pitt, Maddox Jolie-Pitt and Pax Jolie-Pitt. For now, it looks like it's going to stay that way, but at least we now know that the Cambodian government is incredibly in-tune with its trending topics.
