E! Everywhere: Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ

What is RSS?

Short for Really Simple Syndication (some prefer Rich Site Summary), RSS is a lightweight XML-based technology for sharing Web content. E! Online currently uses RSS version 2.0 and offers several RSS feeds, each of which contains a headline, a short news summary and a link back to E! Online for the full story. RSS feeds are free.

How do I use RSS?

To use RSS, you will need an RSS news reader or aggregator. There are a number of different news readers, many of which are available for free. Most news readers are freestanding applications that you download and install, while others are Web-based services that work with your browser.

After installing the RSS news reader, you can add each feed manually by clicking on the orange "XML" button next to the type of news you want. Follow the directions for your specific news reader on how to add feeds.

How do I listen to a podcast?

Podcasts are audio programs delivered as MP3 files, regularly updated through RSS feeds. To subscribe and listen to a podcast, you'll need an RSS reader or podcasting player, such as iTunes, iPodder or any number of others. To subscribe, copy the link into your program of choice.

What kind of news content does E! Online syndicate via RSS?

E! Online offers the following feeds: latest news, movies, TV, music and celebrities. Noncommercial use of the news feeds is permitted free of charge for individuals or nonprofit organizations. Attribution (included in each feed) is required.

What are the terms of use?

The feeds are provided free of charge for use by individuals and nonprofit organizations for personal use in a news reader or as part of a noncommercial Website or blog. E! Online requires proper format and attribution whenever E! Online content is posted on your Website. Please read the E! Online RSS terms and conditions for complete instructions.

If you provide this attribution in text, you must use: E! Online. If you provide this attribution with a graphic, you must use the E! Online logo that is included in the feed itself. E! Online reserves all rights in and to the E! Online logo, and your right to use the E! Online logo is limited to providing attribution in connection with these RSS feeds.

E! Online is also including the provider of each individual news story in the feed alongside each headline. Please do not alter this for display.

E! Online also reserves the right to require you to cease distributing these feeds at any time for any reason.

How Do I Participate Via Text Message?

To use your cell phone to participate in viewer shout-outs, viewer voting and text message sweepstakes entry, look for the onscreen or online prompts of the keyword and short code to participate via text message.

Does My Phone Carrier Support Two-Way Text Messaging?

Most U.S. carriers support two-way text messaging—however, the participating carriers for E!'s text messaging services are AT&T Wireless, Verizon Wireless, Sprint, Nextel, Boost, Dobson, Alltel and U.S. Cellular.

Is There a Fee to Send/Receive a Text Message?

Participating via text message (SMS) is charged at standard text message rates. Please refer to your wireless plan for details of how much you will be charged.

When I Tried to Participate, My Handset Said, "Message Not Sent." Why?

Although the text messaging networks are designed to handle large volumes, there may be times (particularly during the airing of the awards shows) when they cannot handle every message, as a result of network congestion. When this happens, "Message not sent" will appear on your handset. Please be patient and try again later.
