UPDATE: David Bowie's son is responding to reports that the legendary singer's ashes were scattered at Burning Man.

"That Burning Man thing? What people will do & say for attention never ceases to amaze me. Not true. Kind of a gross claim as well. *sigh*," Duncan Jones tweeted Monday morning. "We all know if dad DID want his ashes scattered in front of strangers, it would be at the Skegness Butlins. ;)"

David Bowie has found his final resting place.

A source tells E! News the late icon's ashes were scattered at Burning Man, an annual gathering in the Nevada desert, over Labor Day weekend. Bowie's wife Iman gave the singer's godchild permission to take a portion of his ashes, the insider adds, as the two had a special connection to the often-spiritual event.

"David's godchild and David had long talks about Burning Man and what it stands for, and David loved the message behind it," our source tells us.

The performer, who passed in January of this year after an 18-month battle with cancer, was honored with a small ceremony at the Temple, a massive structure erected for Burning Man attendees to memorialize their loved ones.

Of the 70-person ceremony, an eyewitness tells E! News, "We played [David's] music the entire drive from our camp to the Temple and back," adding, "Most of us had the Bowie [lightning bolt] face paint on in his honor."

At the end of the week-long event, the Temple is burnt to the ground like most of Burning Man's many art installations and structures.

And just a few days ago, Iman made her first public appearance since David's death at New York Fashion Week. The supermodel paid tribute to her partner of over 20 years with a silver necklace spelling "David." As she told Good Morning America's Joe Zee, she has no plans to take it off.

"I'm wearing this until my death," she told him. "[Fashion designer] Hedi Slimane made it for me."
