The Best and Worst Disney Channel Halloween Movies, Ranked

Halloweentown, Twitches and more nostalgic TV films from your childhood

We have a confession to make: we still watch the Disney Channel during the month of October for it's Monstober marathon. They play all the best original Halloween movies! That makes it not embarrassing, right?!

These are the not-so scary Halloween movies we grew up on and watching them is a yearly tradition, because Halloween wouldn't be complete without some vintage TV movie fun! And by vintage, we mean 17 years ago.

We have done all the work for you and ranked the Disney Original Halloween Movies. Don't be scared! See if your favorite was ranked the best and get ready to get your nostalgia on...

11. The Scream Team

The Scream Team is the worst. If you forgot about it like we did, we will jog your memory. It has a pretty heavy plot: a brother and sister lose their grandfather and believe his soul is trying to tel them something. With the help of three ghosts they free their grandfather's soul from an evil ghost. We love that baby Kat Dennings is in this movie but even that casting choice can't save its ranking.

10. Return to Halloweentown

True fans hate recasting a main character and the final Halloweentown movie is no different. The franchise switched out our beloved Kimberly J. Brown for Sara Paxton. These two ladies don't even look remotely alike. The entire movie you are wondering what contract terms forced Brown to leave and why they chose Paxton and basically "what is happening?!" It is a mess. The sad thing is this movie had the potential to be a classic. Marnie and her brother Dylan head to Witch University to try out college life in Halloweentown. If you can get past the cast change betrayal, tune into this flick for a look at spooky college life.

9. Don't Look Under The Bed

The movie is downright terrifying. OK, it might have been scarier when we were younger but we are pretty sure it is still horrifying. The main character has an imaginary friend who ends up selling her out to the Boogeyman. The girl is obviously unstable and the boogeyman looks like a horror show. We couldn't sleep for weeks after seeing this movie. If you are looking for a scarier Disney film to watch this Halloweekend, give this one a try.

8. Under Wraps

The very first of the Disney Channel Original Halloween movies. Under Wraps is not perfect but it is pretty cute and not of the scary variety. It's about a clumsy mummy named Harold. (Seriously, the mummy's name is Harold). It is not the worst one but it's definitely not the best. It's mummy in the middle. (That was cheesy and we apologize.)

7. Mom's Got A Date With A Vampire

This movie is an absolute classic. A bickering brother and sister must band together to save their mom from her bloodsucking Halloween date. Disney sure does love a self-explanatory title. These are not the sexy Twilight vampires either. Aided by a vampire hunter they must beat a suave British vamp, with many shenanigans along the way.

6. Halloweentown High

Kimberly J. Brown is all grown up in this installment! She is hosting a group of Halloweentown exchange students, however, the movie takes place in the mortal world, rather than in Halloweentown. What a drag! Worst of all it's about the perils of regular high school. Bummer. We want pumpkin head people, witches, warlocks and lots of drama, damn it!

5. Twitches Too

This sequel is based on the idea of twin sister witches...Twitches, get it? And even better, it stars our favorite '90s twins, Tia and Tamara Mowry. Disney maybe should have rethought the almost offensive name, but hey, this is what we are stuck with. Don't let the title deter you, it is still a great movie.

4. Phantom of the Megaplex

This movie is not technically a Halloween movie but it soooo good and scary! So we are adding it to our list of the best Halloween movies. There is a ghost haunting the local movie theater and three kids must solve the mystery. Sold. Mickey Rooney is amazing as the senile former owner of the theater who thinks he works there. This movie is a whodunit that is perfect for the whole family or for scaredy cats who don't like horror movies. Or for adults who want to relive their favorite childhood movies.

3. Twitches

The original Twitches follows two girls who find out that they have a twin they didn't know existed, á la The Parent Trap. One grew up privileged, the other was raised in poverty. They must band together to save the world from darkness, through sassy commentary and some choice mid 2000s fashion. It's Parent Trap plus Halloween! What could be better? Well, two movies are better, actually. Read on!

2. Halloweentown II: Kalabar's Revenge

Aw, Marnie and the gang are growing up! They discover that something terrible has happened in Halloweentown. This movie is so great, you guys. The "effects" are better, there are funnier characters and obviously, lots of magic. A truly iconic film that belongs in the movie hall of fame, for sure.

1. Halloweentown

Halloween and really the month of October would not be complete without this movie. Marnie Piper is the reason we thought we would become a witch and receive magical powers on our 13th birthday. It has everything we love and it is the original so it reigns supreme. This movie was the one that started it all. It also introduced us to Aggie, Marnie's eccentric grandmother who lives in a dimension where it is Halloween all the time, which honestly, is a dream come true.
