Matchstick Men

Like all good con movies, it's what lurks under the surface that ultimately makes the difference down the line. Matchstick Men plays that deception well as director Ridley Scott gets all playful after action flicks like Gladiator and Black Hawk Down. Nicolas Cage shakes off his streak of bad films as an obsessive-compulsive, tic-laden flimflam man who works L.
A.'s suckers with the help of spastic protégé Sam Rockwell. But when Cage reunites with his long-lost daughter (the delightful Alison Lohman), his life changes for the better...or does it? No kidding, all of the performances are right on the money, and the flick's snappy style continually pays off with good times. You can totally trust us on this one.
