Some neighborhood block parties have pony rides and potlucks; Dave Chappelle's has Mos Def and Kanye West. The comic wanted to throw a free concert in Bedford-Stuyvesant, in the heart of Brooklyn. And boy, did he--gathering the best hip-hop artists of today. From Kanye and Common to a surprise reunion of the Fugees, the huge jam session is an electric affair, dynamically filmed by Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind director Michel Gondry.
But this Party isn't just about the music; it's about community. Footage of Chappelle kidding around with everyday folks--fellow citizens of Dayton, Ohio, kids at a Bed-Stuy day care center--are by turns heartwarming and hilarious. Despite a few slow moments toward the end, this is one block party you won't wanna miss.
