The best thing about this half-cocked shoot-em-up is the beautiful, rugged scenery--and, of course, by that we mean the cast. Think of it as Younger Guns, with stud-puppies James Van Der Beek, Ashton Kutcher and Usher playing the green youngsters who must grow up fast to save the Lone Star state from bandits after the Civil War. Yawn. Suitably craggy Dylan McDermott is saddled with playing the tubercular "old" gunslinger (fire your agent now, Dylan) who teaches the kids a thing or three in a convoluted rehash of cattle rustling, revenge and camaraderie.
Rachael Leigh Cook is anything but all that here. In fact, she's barely there. (Good news for her, really.) Two years ago, when this was originally supposed to come out, Ashton and the Beek were "it" boys whose buzz could probably have created a box-office stampede. Now, the only buzz here is the ringing in your ears from the endless gun battles.
