InstagramShannen Doherty is here to clarify a few things about cancer.
Amid her battle with breast cancer, the actress was on her way home after a round of radiation treatment when she had a startling interaction with a stranger.
"Today, we were in an elevator and I was asked how I was feeling. I responded by saying that I had just gotten a radiation treatment so therefore very tired," Doherty explained. "The random girl on the elevator with us physically lunged away as far as she could. She then proceeded to look horrified for the next 3 floors."
The outspoken star, who has chronicled her fight with the disease on social media, then shared a few "cancer truths" to anyone reading.
"Just a heads up.... 1. You can't catch it 2. The radiation won't leak out of me and go into you. Hope that helps. #cancertruths from the #cancerslayer."
The 45-year-old actress has not kept fans in the dark throughout her hard-fought battle. She shared a photo on her first day of radiation treatment and sat down for a late-night interview on Chelsea to share her innermost thoughts on the painstaking process.
"I think what's beautiful and hard and interesting about cancer is that it tears you down and builds you, and tears you down and builds you," Doherty said. "It remakes you so many different times. The person I thought I was supposed to be or was going to be or who I thought I was six months ago is now somebody completely different. I realize 'Wow, I really thought that I was so brave and so gracious this entire time and really I was just hiding.'"
As for her husband, Kurt Iswarienko, sitting in the driver's seat, Doherty has never felt more loved.
"Kurt has stood by my side thru sickness and makes me feel more loved now than ever," she wrote on Instagram. "I would walk any path with this man. Take any bullet for him and slay every dragon to protect him. He is my soul mate. My other half. I am blessed."
