All right, guys—listen up.

When you're a red-carpet regular, you wear your fair share of evening wear. And then when you're a red-carpet regular who's also a big-time singer-songwriter whose parents both just so happened to be tailors, you know evening wear on a whole other level.

John Legend is that man.

He was on our best dressed list from this year's AMAs, so it's no surprise Mr. Porter approached the star (who confessed, "I own more tuxedos than one should own") to make a video of his go-to tuxedo tips.

Hit play above for John's full instructional, then head below for suave pointers on how to dress like a Legend...without John Legend's budget.

The Watch

John's Tip: "When you're wearing cufflinks, choose a thin "dress watch" or "evening watch"—it'll sit better on your wrist and it won't bunch up your cuffs."

And because you probably can't afford the star's $5,300 Zenith pick, check out some more affordable, but just-as-good-looking buys below.

Skagen Jorn Leather Strap Watch, $87

MVMT Classic Series Rose Gold/Brown Leather, $110

Fossil Grant Automatic Black Leather Watch, $175

The Tie

John's Tip: "Now these days, a lot of people wear neck ties with their tuxedos. It's OK—I've done it a few times—but I'm thinking it should be a bow tie. Make it black or midnight blue and ideally make it from the same material as the suit's lapel. Most importantly: Wear a real bow tie. Because nothing looks cooler than when you undo it at the end of the night."

Sure, the $250 Tom Ford one in the video looked amazing, but get a load of your options below!

Zara Velvet Bow Tie, $26

The Tie Bar Solid Satin, $19

Ted Baker London Silk Bow Tie, $50

The Shoes

John's Tip: "Evening slippers look great, but I prefer a nice polishable black dress shoe. And wear long black socks, so you don't expose any calf when you're sitting down."

Now, the singer's $895 Saint Laurent pair might be out of the question, but the below buys are right in your price range.

Calibrate Reggio Patent Leather Derby, $100

Clarks Andover Black Leather, $80

Johnston & Murphy Nolen Plain Toe, $185

Well, don't you look dapper.
