Jennifer Hudson is thrilled to be part of Hairspray Live, but there's somebody else who might just be more excited than the Oscar winner: Her son.
"It's exciting for me as a parent to be able to show my son this. Every day he beats me to rehearsal," she told E! News. "Then to come in, he got to meet Dove the other day. He's a huge fan of hers."
She's referring to Dove Cameron, Amber Von Tussle in Hairspray Live. Cameron starred in Disney Channel's Liv and Maddie as well as Descendants.
"At first I didn't realize that's who I've been looking at on the Disney Channel forever, and then I was like, ‘Oh my god, that is that girl.' It's super exciting for him," Hudson said.
Hudson stars as Motormouth Maybelle alongside the likes of Cameron, Martin Short, Kristin Chenoweth, Garrett Clayton, Maddie Baillio and Ariana Grande in Hairspray Live. And fans will be treated to a special duet between Grande and Hudson, or as Hudson put it, "two powerhouse vocalists just singing together."
"It's exciting, it's fun. I'm a fan of her, so it's like, we get to sing together—when I found that out I was like, ‘Oh yes, let's get into it.' It's another cool thing I get to add to my list, that's for sure," she told us.
One of those things on her list she just accomplished? A Broadway run as Shug Avery in The Color Purple. But even after two shows a day, she's still nervous for Hairspray to go live.
"Nerves have to be a part of it because I kind of feel strange when I'm not nervous," she told us. "When you're doing things live like this and everything counts, you have to be on your toes, so the nerves keep you on your toes, you know?"
