There’s something about yesterday’s inaugural events in D.C. that make us want to burst out into song and perhaps dazzle you all with a little tap dance routine. Even though we’re Canadians, it’s hard to keep our emotions in check and not explode in a hot mess of excitement and love and happiness and relief and sparkles and magic!

And we’re certainly not alone in our joy.

Barack Obama’s ascent to the White House has inspired a number of musicians to write songs paying homage to the 44th president of the United States of America.

Michael Franti and Spearhead make us feel even happier and shinier with the fun-loving “Obama Song”

“My President is Black” is Young Jeezy’s colourful presidential tribute.

The star-studded “Yes We Can” is a year old, but its message now has even more impact. Includes will.i.am, Scarlett Johanssen, John Legend, Amber Valetta, Herbie Hancock, Nick Cannon and more.

And Boney M (you know, those Rah-rah-Rasputin guys?) seem pretty happy about this whole Obama thing too

We aren’t going to include Obama Girl—deal with it.

Also, be sure to check out Canada’s musical present to Barack Obama, 49 Songs From North of the 49th Parallel, a playlist of essential Canadian listening that will help the new American President understand our national identity.

Oh What A Feeling, Obama! We could drink a case of you and still be on our feet.
