Taking your time to do a full-on makeup look is always worth the extra effort.

Chances are, when it comes to eyeliner, you've already got your own personal routine down—let's face it, it's easy to fall into the habit of doing the same old makeup look over and over again. Whether your signature look includes a cat-eye or perhaps a smoky eye, most likely you're using shades of black or brown. Sound familiar? It's time to try something new.

We see this all the time on and off the red carpet, and that's why Olivia Culpo's striking eyes caught our attention at last night's Emmys. Courtesy of celeb makeup artist Sir John, the actress' under eye was lined in a cool violet, and it's not the first time we've seen it—Zimmermann debuted a similar under-eye look at their show last week (check out the below video for that tutorial).

So if you're looking for a small, easy change that will make a big impact, this is it. For day, consider your eye makeup done (it's all you really need), but if you want to bump it up for evening, like Olivia, add a shimmery eye shadow and black liner along the top.

The best part is that jewel-tone picks will make any eye color pop. Plum draws out the color in brown and green eyes, but blue and emerald hues will do the same thing—it's impossible to go wrong.

With a makeup tip this easy we only have one question: What color will you choose?
