And the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series goes to … Game of Thrones!

Despite several upsets in many of the drama series categories—Rami Malek and Tatiana Maslany?! Heck yes!—HBO's epic fantasy series managed to snag the most coveted trophy of them all for the second year in a row, and it was presented by NYPD Blue stars Jimmy Smits and Dennis Franz to boot.

GoT beat out fellow nominees Better Call Saul, Downton Abbey, Homeland, House of Cards, Mr. Robot and The Americans for the final award of the night.

The 2016 race was a mix of first-time nominees—Mr. Robot, The Americans—and veterans: fifth-time nominee Downton Abbey (in its final year of eligibility), fifth-time nominee (and last year's winner) Game of Thrones, fourth-time nominee House of Cards, fourth-time nominee (and 2012 winner) Homeland, and second-time nominee Better Call Saul.

Game of Thrones took home the trophy in 2015 for its fifth season, finally breaking through for a year that drew mixed reviews from fans and critics. Best Drama is the show's fifth Emmy of the night—it also took home Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series, Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series, Outstanding Casting for a Drama Series, and Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup.
