Christie Brinkley and John Mellencamp have split.
A rep for the pair confirmed the breakup to E! News, noting, "Both the mileage between their homes and their heavy career demands interfered with their ability to maintain the relationship." Both Brinkley and Mellencamp, who dated for one year prior to their split, have "vowed to remain best of friends," added the rep. People first reported the breakup.
Last November, the supermodel, 62, talked about her budding romance with Mellencamp, 64, on The Wendy Williams Show. "I'm just having fun and, you know, we'll see," she said. "Yeah, I mean we're dating and you know, having a good time. You've been subjected to my private life enough so I'm just trying to keep my private life private."
When Brinkley first met Mellencamp at a party last summer, she wasn't entirely sure if they'd hit it off. "I thought, 'Oh my gosh, we're really opposites. He's kind of a throwback from another time, like a silent cowboy,'" she recalled in an interview with People published in June. "But then we talked and realized that we do have a lot of shared interests."
Brinkley also liked that Mellencamp was in his 60s. "When it comes to relationships, there is something nice about just being the same age," she said. "I know guys that go out with girls that are so, so young. They'll throw some reference out, and they're like, 'What's that?'"
