The Glee actress, who famously played one of Sue Sylvester's cheerleaders, Becky Jackson, on the Fox series, accepted a promise ring from her childhood friend and boyfriend Timothy Spear, People reported.
The 26-year-old actress said yes to Spear during an oceanside picnic in Laguna Beach on Sunday. "He picked out the ring, made payments on it, and then planned the picnic and the moment to get down on one knee to ask her to promise to be his one-and-only and marry him when they are ready," Potter's mom Robin Sinkhorn told the magazine.
Spear and Potter have known each other their entire lives as their mothers were in the same baby classes together after they were born. However, it wasn't until later on in their lives that the two adults, who were both born with Down Syndrome, became romantically involved. "When Lauren ended a relationship, Timothy immediately asked her out and they have been together since," Sinkhorn told People.
Meanwhile, in addition to her new personal commitment, Potter remains dedicated to empowering those with special needs. "I am fortunate to be on TV, but the real heroes are those mentioned tonight and the others around the country who are working hard to disable labels," she said while accepting the 2011 AAPD Image Award. "It truly takes a village to ensure opportunities for everyone regardless of ability."
