No matter how brief this reunion is in the trailer, a (fantastic) reunion it still is.

Meg Ryan makes her directorial debut with the World War II film, Ithaca, and in it she and Tom Hanks will be playing the parents of 14-year old Homer (Alex Neustaedter) who becomes a telegraph messenger during the war while his brother (Jack Quaid) fights abroad. Meg and Tom's onscreen reunion is brief—a mere heartwarming glance at each other—but it's enough to give us all the same feels they gave us in You've Got Mail and Sleepless in Seattle.

If the plot alone won't make you tear up, the thought of these two acting in love again absolutely will.

Of course, the trailer features plenty of footage to get the waterworks flowing, from Homer having to read a telegraph to an older woman saying her son was killed in the war to Ryan's character telling Homer that there will always "be pain in this world."

Ithaca is based on William Saroyan's 1943 novel The Human Comedy

Meg opened up to Entertainment Weekly and said Hanks was "just so dear" during his short time on the film (it took him one day to film his scenes). "He so did not have to do that," she told the magazine. "At the end of his time, he says to the crew, 'All right, gather 'round. Listen, I know we've gotten to know each other very well over the last 10 hours together, but I just want to thank you for being here for my friend Meg.'"

She added, "It was such an act of friendship. I love him so much."

Ithaca will be released in September and also stars Sam Shepard and Hamish Linklater.
