Everything you know about The Walking Dead's Daryl Dixon is a lie. Well, not entirely true, but Norman Reedus revealed his character was supposed to have a very different mode of transportation instead of his signature motorcycle: a horse.
"I saw it written and I'm kind of afraid of horses, with their big eyeballs and they can smell your fear and all that stuff" Reedus told Conan O'Brien when the host asked if it was true that he nixed the horse.
But it wasn't just the fear that had him ask for the change to the now iconic motorcycle. Reedus previously had horse-riding experience on screen in a movie with Robert Redford. He was supposed to have an entrance on a horse and spout some lines, but he had difficulty controlling the horse and keeping it on mark.
"I could hear Redfrod screaming, ‘Someone handle Norman's horse!' and I was like, ‘Man, I'm going to get fired off this job,'" he said on Conan.
So when he read about the bike meant for his Walking Dead brother Merle Dixon (Michael Rooker) in the script, he got an idea.
"I'm like, ‘You know, if Merle can ride a motorcycle, Daryl probably knows how to ride a motorcycle,' so I sort of spun it into that," he explained.
Reedus also revealed he knows the answer to The Walking Dead season six cliffhanger, meaning he knows who's dead. Of course he's not revealing who it is, but he's still sporting that haircut and Daryl facial hair. If we were to assume (which, you know, isn't always a smart thing to do), it seems like Daryl didn't meet Negan's (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) barbed wire bat Lucille.
Could Daryl make horses cool? Something tells us there wouldn't be an AMC series about Norman Reedus riding horses had he not suggested the change.
