Antonio Banderas and Melanie Griffith's decision to divorce nearly two years ago shocked many, and the actor won't shy away from admitting it threw him, too.
E! News sat down to talk to the celeb, who has been introduced as the honorary President of Miami Fashion Week, and Banderas confessed that these last few years have been crucial. "My life changed very much during the last two years, personal reasons," he began to explain, "the possibility of reinventing myself was there, and so I said probably this is the moment that I can do this."
And during his reinvention, Banderas learned that his greatest teachers are actually his kids! "I told my kids sometimes, but in fact, the reality is I learned from them more. They were not very obedient," he laughed, "but I learn from them."
Banderas continued, "Especially from my little one, Stella. And at the beginning I thought it's not the thing that's actually making her look better, but then I realized it was part of a tendency. Because I saw her coming home with a bunch of her friends and they were all in the same style, so it's a tendency. Everybody's going there for some reason. It's very interesting how people, we all, react to tendencies."
The former couple initially announced their intent to divorce in June 2014, saying in a joint statement: "We have thoughtfully and consensually decided to finalize our almost twenty years marriage in a loving and friendly manner honoring and respecting each other, our family and friends and the beautiful time we have spent together - Melanie & Antonio"
Fortunately, though, the split seemed to be an amicable one. The exes reunited for their daughter Stella's graduation last summer, even posing for a series of happy family photos together.
