For Calvin Harris, the spark in his relationship with Taylor Swift had fizzled out long before he called it quits, E! News has learned.
E! News learned Wednesday that the 26-year-old pop star and 32-year-old Scottish DJ and music producer, whose real name is Adam Wiles, split last week after dating for about 15 months and that he was the one who broke up with her. The two have not commented.
"Adam has been bored for a while and was hoping the spark would come back but it hasn't," a source told E! News exclusively Thursday. "Friends were even surprised it lasted this long because of the lack of chemistry."
Another insider had previously told E! News Harris "started to lose interest over the past few months" and that the two were "not very compatible" and "seemed like they were more friends than lovers."
A source close to Swift had said the singer "was really disappointed in Calvin and felt like he wasn't there for her."
"The relationship wasn't progressing the way she wanted it to," the source added. "She felt like he wasn't taking it seriously enough and wouldn't come through for her when she needed him most."
Another source had said "the romance just was not there anymore for them" and that Swift is "pretty upset" but is still in contact with Harris. E! News also learned neither party cheated on the other.
The split came soon after Harris was slightly injured in a car accident, causing him to cancel a few shows. A source had recently told E! News he is "feeling better" and that Swift was being supportive during this time.
This marked the longest known relationship for Swift, who found much success with her songs about heartache and breakups and has previously dated stars such as Harry Styles and John Mayer.
Harris, who rarely says anything personal in the press or on social media, had said in a radio interview last July that he was "insanely happy" with Swift.
He also tweeted a rare, sweet message to the singer this past February after she won the 2016 Grammy for Album of the Year, saying, "Congratulations to my beautiful girlfriend."
Swift and Harris were often photographed out on dates during their time together. She often paid tribute to her beau at her concerts and was spotted at several of his DJ gigs, including on at the Coachella Music Festival in April.
Swift and Harris had also documented parts of their romance on social media while they were dating. She shared a video showing her and Harris' celebrating their one-year anniversary with a cake and both posted photos from a vacation they took together. Swift also posted a pic of his anniversary gift to her—a gold heart-shaped locket, engraved with the date they began dating.
