ABCWell that was not fun. Not fun at all.
Tonight we watched Callie and Arizona go to court over custody of Sofia, and it was just the worst. Their coworkers were forced to take the stand and answer demeaning questions that really only hurt everyone involved in order to lead the judge to a decision on who should get to keep their daughter full-time.
In the end, Arizona "won," which is the result we wanted. It was also the result you wanted, based on your responses to our poll, so even while we were thrilled to learn the judge's decision, it was a bittersweet thrill. Callie was just so devastated, and it was so hard to watch.
The whole episode was actually really hard to watch, but in a different way than Grey's normally is. There was no gore, no terrible tragedy, just a truly painful legal battle that was almost too real. We felt physical pain deep in our gut as Arizona was basically slut-shamed for her nights out with Richard, and as Penny made it clear on the stand that she was not quite on the level of being Sofia's new parent.
The discomforting realness of the trial was, of course, made even more dramatic by a case that required Arizona's expertise at the hospital. Of course the OB on call was trying to deliver the pregnant teen's baby way too early, and of course Arizona was the only person who could save the day.
Fortunately, the girl and her baby survived, and leaving the hearing while she was on the stand didn't lose Arizona the win, so it all worked out, but we don't feel good about any of it.
This show, man.
