If 2015 was the year of all-over sheer, this year's Met Gala marked the year of cutouts at the waist.

Nearly every fashionista from pop queen Taylor Swift to supermodel Karlie Kloss sported the sexy look on the Met red carpet Monday night.

It wasn't the result of one designer either—famed fashion houses from Atelier Versace to Calvin Klein incorporated carved out waists into their looks for the evening, begging the question—have we found the new "It" look? It certainly looks like it

Actress Margot Robbie opted for an ethereal version of the trend, sporting a simple cream strapless column gown by Calvin Klein topped off with gold cuffs and sleek blond locks tucked behind her ears.

However, the Suicide Squad star's dress got a bit of sex appeal from the side cutouts, which showed off subtle slivers of skin in just the right places.

Runway veteran Naomi Campbell took the trend a step further by showing off her entire waist in a beaded metallic number by Roberto Cavalli.

She kept all eyes on the dress with simple, but sleek hair and minimal jewelry other than a pair of cuffs on her wrists.

For the reality star's first Met Gala moment, Kylie Jenner was right on trend in a beaded and fringe Balmain creation complete with none other than cutouts at the waist.

The gown perfectly highlighted Jenner's hourglass shape and looked like a modern take on a suit of armour when paired with her unexpected but very fashion forward brunette bob.

With award season already under her belt, Oscar winner Brie Larson was a bonafide pro in the art of red carpet dressing by the time the Met Gala arrived.

She also took on the side cutout trend, except in head to toe silver sequins by Proenza Schouler. The design also featured layers of black-trimmed ruffles tied together with a black bow.

She kept the rest of the look very minimal with a swept-back hair, a dark lip and few pieces of jewelry.
