The most hotly anticipated fashion event of the year is taking place at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art on Monday. (Sorry, Oscars.)
The annual Met Gala has easily become one of the hottest tickets anywhere, the star-packed red carpet now the place for celebrities—and the designers they choose to wear—to have a major Moment for the world to see.
Joining Vogue editor in chief and reigning taste-maker Anna Wintour among the co-chairs this year is Taylor Swift, always a glamorous one on the red carpet, and Idris Elba. (Rumor has it, the actor looks rather handsome in a tux...)
Design houses ranging from Balmain to Chanel, Michael Kors to Marchesa and Givenchy to Guo Pei, work tirelessly to make sure their models-for-a-night end up on all the best-dressed lists. (Or at the very least, inspire a meme.)
For example, Rihanna's sunshine-yellow 2015 MET Gala gown took Guo Pei two years to make. That is extreme dedication to couture!
This year's Met Gala theme is "Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology," focusing on the contrast between handmade haute couture and machine-made fashion, as well as where the two meet in the middle in the modern era.
Past years' themes have been just as inspiring, and celebs have turned up in some jaw-dropping looks—so we couldn't be more excited for Monday!
