Another slam dunk here. All Emmy week long, E! Online's TV Diva, Kristin Veitch, has been picking her faves and winner predictions, and it's nice when the two coincide. Like with Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy:

The Incumbent:  Tony Shalhoub, Monk

The Contenders

  • Alec Baldwin, 30 Rock
  • Steve Carell, The Office
  • Ricky Gervais, Extras
  • Tony Shalhoub, Monk
  • Charlie Sheen, Two and a Half Men

Who Should Win:  Alec Baldwin, 30 Rock

Who Will Win:  Alec Baldwin, 30 Rock

Oh, Emmy voters, you make me sad. I love Tony Shalhoub, too. Really, I do, but these nominations for his performance as Adrian Monk have got to stop—if only because he already has a shelf full of trophies. Plus, it would open up a slot for USA's other funnyguys, like James Roday and Dulé Hill (who are simply gut-busting on Psych).

But enough about what might have been. Among the nominees, Alec Baldwin needs to take home an award for his portrayal of Jack Donaghy, NBC's head of television and microwave programming. His combination of timing, comportment and self-effacing wit made him the comedy standout of the season, and that's exactly what the Emmys are meant to reward.
