As the age-old mantra goes, there is a price to beauty. Whether that price is an extensive amount of time, a bit of pain, or just plain old eccentricity, a slew of Hollywood's most famous stars are willing to pay a hefty penny to stay on their beauty A game.
Sure, millions of eyes ogling at all times would make even the most confident star willing to try something a bit extraordinary to look and feel their best. Still, this list of regimens performed by celebs like Oscar winner Gwyneth Paltrow and pop sensation Justin Bieber may come off as just plain scary to the chick who considers a splurge to be an extra Essie nail polish at CVS.
Still, we won't knock any of these rituals until we try them—yes, even Snooki's cat litter facial. Here are seven beauty behaviors that may make you raise an eyebrow—or both!
1. Kylie Jenner's Five Hour Manicures
The 18-year-old reality star and style idol is known for her risk-taking when it comes to hair, fashion, makeup and nails. Whether she's rocking taupe matte polish or a flurry of pastel designs, her fingertips are always decorated. Still, the weekly maintenance Jenner endures for her manicures comes at a timely cost.
"I get my nails done every week," Jenner told PeopleStyle. "I've sat literally for four to five hours doing them. I used to spend so much time doing the craziest artwork."
2. Justin Bieber's Cupping Therapy
Performing on a world tour can be all types of exhausting. The 22-year-old "Sorry" singer squeezes in R&R between his time on stage with cupping therapy.
For those unfamiliar with the ancient technique, cups are used with suction or heat directly on the skin. The therapy is believed to treat muscle knots, swelling and overall body pain.
3. Gwyneth Paltrow's Vagina Steams
According to the Oscar winner's lifestyle website, Goop, Paltrow advocates the benefits of a "Mugworth V-Steam" at the Tikkun Spa in Santa Monica. Referred to as the golden ticket of the California spa, the procedure helps provide an "energetic release" for the women willing to shell out $50.
"You sit on what is essentially a mini-throne, and a combination of infrared and mugwort steam cleanses your uterus, et al.," Paltrow described. "If you're in LA, you have to do it."
4. Chris Martin's Weekly Fasting
To stay in tip top shape, the Coldplay frontman skips eating one day every week.
"I started doing it because I was sick one time, and this guy said to me, 'Just try not eating for a day because it will make your body feel healthier,'" he recollected during an interview on Fresh 102.7.
"I did it and then I found I could sing a bit better, and also I felt so grateful for food...and just grateful for everything in a way that I wasn't so much before."
5. Queen Elizabeth's Shoe Regimen
So, we know this is a list of bizarre rituals, but this one we might amend to just plain genius. The 89-yeal old British monarch never has to experience the blisters and discomfort that result from freshly purchased heels. Instead, someone else breaks them in for her.
"[The shoes] have to be immediately comfortable," the queen's dress designer Stewart Parvin told The Sunday Times. "She does get someone to wear them. The Queen can never say, ‘I'm uncomfortable, I can't walk any more.' She has the right to have someone wear them in."
6. Shailene Woodley's Clay Diet
The actress, who typically takes a natural approach to beauty altogether, confidently preaches the advantages of eating this earthy substance.
"I first heard about the benefits of eating clay from a taxi driver. He was African and was saying that, where he's from, the women eat clay when they're pregnant," she told Into the Gloss. "I've discovered that clay is great for you because your body doesn't absorb it, and it apparently provides a negative charge, so it bonds to negative isotopes.
Equally interesting, the star also said she also only shampoos her hair "like once a month."
7. Snooki's Cat Litter Facial
In the good 'ol days of fist pumping and Jersey Shore partying, the former castmate of the famed reality show revealed she turned to one simple—and cheap—household pet product for her skincare.
"I like to Google a lot and I don't like to spend a lot of money on spa treatments, just because I'm, like, a cheapo," she told Conan O'Brien. "So I Googled what else I could use that's, like, not so expensive, and it was cat litter!"
