Ed Sheeran's night at the 2016 Grammy Awards is already off to a great start.

The British crooner was just awarded his first Grammy ever for his song "Thinking Out Loud," taking home the trophy for Best Pop Solo Performance. Sheeran beat out the likes of Ellie Goulding, Kelly Clarkson, The Weeknd, and good friend Taylor Swift

The win wasn't a part of the main telecast, taking place instead during the pre-show awards ceremony. Sheeran's win was revealed to the world via the Grammys Twitter account, with a screenshot from the live stream of the singer holding his trophy. "Congratulations to Ed Sheeran for his first Grammy win on GrammyLive," they wrote.

One famous fan overjoyed for Sheeran's win? None other than a loser in the category, his friend Taylor. She retweeted the Grammys tweet about Sheeran's victory, replying to the tweet with a simple, but sweet, "YES."

Sheeran stands a fair chance of taking home some more hardware before the night is through. "Thinking Out Loud" is also nominated for the coveted Record of the Year and Song of the Year awards, categories that pit him yet again against Taylor's "Blank Space." Will it be a threepeat for Ed or will Taylor score some wins of her own? Only time will tell.
