Whose side are you on, anyway?
For years, Captain America (Chris Evans) and Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) have fought side by side against some of the biggest baddies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including Asgard's demigod Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and Earth's mechanical super-villain Ultron (James Spader). But in Walt Disney Studios and Marvel Studios' Captain America: Civil War, their friendship is put to the test like never before. A new trailer debuted during Super Bowl 50 Sunday and showed the two Avengers going head-to-head, splitting up the super-team in the process.
The movie begins with Captain America leading the new team of Avengers. Collateral damage from one international incident results in a regulation forcing superheroes to register with the government. As one might expect, some people are on board with the Superhero Registration Act, while others are opposed to it. Captain America wants to defend humanity without any government interference, while Iron Man supports government oversight and accountability.
It's not as if Captain America and Iron Man have always agreed on the best course of action—remember all the drama that went down in 2015's The Avengers: Age of Ultron? But with their liberty at stake, the Avengers' most patriotic member will do whatever it takes to protect his freedom, even at the expense of his friendship.
Falcon (Anthony Mackie), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Ant-Man (Paul Rudd), Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) and Agent 13 (Emily Van Camp) are on Captain America's side, while Vision (Paul Bettany), Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman), War Machine (Don Cheadle) and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) are on Iron Man's side. People are apt change their minds, of course, as the movie will show.
Captain America: Civil War is easily the biggest film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to date. New and returning stars include Daniel Brühl as Helmut Zemo, Frank Grillo as Crossbones, Tom Holland as Spider-Man and William Hurt as Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige produced the film. Brothers Anthony Russo and Joe Russo directed the movie from a script by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.
