As the great fictional fashion editor Amanda Priestly once pointed out, florals are not particularly groundbreaking.

The sentiment rings so true that the year in style (yes, even last spring) has been full of garden-variety neutral, nautical and naked trends.

Well, this dainty pattern in back—and blooming with a vengeance.

It may be winter, but red carpets are alive with modern and unexpected floral accents. This typically ladylike motif is being merged with edgier details, breathing bolder, more colorful life to Hollywood events.

Think: Suki Waterhouse in a sheer floral gown with lamé-like accents. Or Lily James in a floral mini-dress—with a mock neck! Then there's Amal Clooney, who just oozes femininity in a frock that without the 3-D floral embellishments would just be a typical tea dress. It's basically florals on designer Miracle-Gro.

Take note of Diane von Furstenberg's just-released spring 2016 campaign—featuring Karlie Kloss. It's a kaleidoscope of florals, mixing and matching prints, textures and bold colors, showing us that women are not just delicate flowers but a complexity of things that beautifully work together to create one confident woman.

So, yes, we're calling it: Florals—even if not very groundbreaking—will be a major trend come fashion month. Can't wait for fall to shop new duds? Click though for a modern take you can wear right now—and, yes, even in the spring.
