Hilary Duff is single and ready to mingle.

The actress appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show Friday, not long after dyeing her blond hair a "purplish-pink" color. "We just got finished filming the second season of Younger. My hair was, like, so long. I just whacked it off," she said. "I'm also a bit of an Instagram troller, so I just find these crazy colors. I'm like, 'I wanna do that! I wanna be a part of that! I wanna be cool!'"

Hilary said her nearly 4-year-old son, Luca Comrie, was mad she didn't come home with "full rainbow" hair. "I was like, 'This took five hours, OK?'" Luca won't be copying his mom's look anytime soon, though. "He's not such a risk taker like that," she said. "I asked if he wanted to."

The actress shares custody of her son with ex-husband Mike Comrie. Ellen DeGeneres praised the exes for "doing it right" post-breakup. "I think that's the way it should be," she said. Hilary explained how it works, saying, "We have such a great kid, and we're both so obsessed with him. We are good friends and we laugh a lot and we have a great communication. We share pictures when one is not with Luca. Yeah, he's great. We are great and we keep on trucking."

The single star is a catch, so Ellen had Hilary pick between two famous eligible bachelors to see which celebrity she should date next. Prince Harry trumped Harry Styles and Justin Bieber, but Leonardo DiCaprio gave the royal a run for his money. "I love Leo so much. I think he's so talented," the actress said while debating her options. "But I think I'd still go with the redhead."

Harry also beat Ed Sheeran, John Mayer, Nick Jonas and Colin Farrell.

"Did you know this was going to happen this way?" Hilary asked.

"I didn't know you were in love with Prince Harry," Ellen said. "No one did!"

"By the way, me either!" Hilary said with a laugh. "You just taught me something about myself."

Harry easily beat Orlando Bloom and Drake, but Bachelor Ben Higgins gave Hilary pause. "Now listen, if you pick The Bachelor...We've gone all this way and he's gonna knock Prince Harry down?" she teased. Hilary defended herself by asking viwers, "Who's watching The Bachelor right now? Me! I am! Why would you do this to me? You really put me in a predicament." Ellen agreed that Ben "is sweet is can be. It's Prince Harry or Ben and you've knocked Leonardo out."

Right or wrong, Hilary relented and went with Harry. "But you are choosing for me just like you didn't want [the audience] to choose for me," she told Ellen, who admitted she was "shocked."

Harry triumphed over Andrew Garfield, but he was no match for Jake Gyllenhaal. The actor was also chosen over Bradley Cooper and Jack Nicholson, though Hilary asked to have Harry "back in the mix." Ellen agreed, and allowed her to choose between him and Jake a final time.
