Business, Both Funny and Not

SNL casts two more white chicks

Two new femme faces, Abby Elliott and Michaela Watkins, premiere on Saturday Night Live tomorrow. Is either comedian gonna come anywhere near replacing the hilarious new mama Amy Poehler? We’ll see.

But a close comedy pal to newbie Abby tells us, “She’s really funny...totally deserving. Definitely a sharp comedic mind.” A.E., whose dad is former SNL alum Chris Elliot, is only 21 years old—pretty young to get such a coveted comedy slot (tho Anthony Michael Hall was the youngest at 17, damn). Let’s hope Abby sticks around longer than the one year her dad lasted on the sketch show. She does a mean Angelina Jolie (check out the clip if you don't believe us), and since we’re such total die-hard A.J. jabbers here at the Awful Truth, thought you all might agree it’s a promising beginning for Ms. E.

Oh, and for the desultory record, in SNL’s 34 seasons, there have only been four black female cast members. Why not sign on board at least one black comedic actress this time ‘round, since it’s inevitable in the next four to eight years you’ll probably want to parody Michelle Obama? Or any other female public persona that isn’t white, like, get real.
