ABC/Jeff NeiraPeople on Twitter aren't the only ones sounding off after Kelly Osbourne's shocking remarks today.
Lisa Navarrete, spokesperson for the National Council of La Raza, the largest Latino advocacy organization in America, tells E! News exclusively that the comments Kelly made on The View today about immigrants cleaning toilets are "an example of privilege; this is how someone in her position views our community most of the time. It's just unfortunate that she used one of the most cliché stereotypes about our community out there to make it."
She continues, "I just hope she uses this as a learning opportunity to really get to know the whole breadth of the community especially if she is going to go on The View or discussing issues like this. I recommend highly that she get herself educated to know the community and talk to people like Rosie Perez at length about this sort of thing."
While Osbourne's comments outraged many, Navarrete tells us that, despite the poor choice of words, she understands the underlying message the celeb was trying to make.
"Her heart was in the right place, she was trying to make a point about Donald Trump and his bigotry as being impractical and that Donald Trump depends on a lot of Latinos to do the work," Navarrete said. "She was trying to make a very strong statement and it fell flat. Her heart was in the right place."
In case you missed it, Osbourne is currently on the receiving end of some serious backlash after making offensive comments on The View this morning. While discussing the presidential polls with the morning show's hosts, Kelly said, "If you kick every Latino out of this country, then who is going to be cleaning your toilet, Donald Trump?"
Yeah...
The 30-year-old star has since tried to clarify her comments via Facebook in a heated statement. "I want to start by saying I ALWAYS take responsibility for my actions," she began her sort-of-apology. "In this particular case I will take responsibility for my poor choice of words but I will not apologize for being a racist as I am NOT."
"I whole-hearted f--ked up today. I don't want to bulls--t anyone with lame excuses," she continued. "Although, I was stopped mid-sentence by Rosie [Perez] and couldn't finish my point I will not let Rosie take responsibility for my words. I should have known better as I was on The View and it was live."
Osbourne added that she "learned a very valuable lesson" and hopes "that this situation will open up a conversation about immigration and the Latin community as a whole."
She concluded by writing, "By the way I clean my own f--king toilets."
Well, that's nice.
