Could the secret to Charlize Theron's amazing looks be…cheese?!
Probably not, but she sure loves a good cheese sandwich.
"Who doesn't love a cheesy sandwich?" the Oscar told me at the premiere of her new thriller Dark Places (available now on DirecTV and in theaters Aug. 7). "You just gotta go with good ol' gouda. Just good ol' gouda and good bread."
Why all this cheese talk? Because when I talked to Theron the day before she said that one of the best things about turning 40 on Aug. 7 is that she doesn't fret over the same things when she was 20.
"I'm so happy to be in my 40s and not be in my 20s and worried if I fit into my skinny jeans or whether I will be able to get into that club," she said, adding, "It's so nice to just be in love with your couch and make cheesy sandwiches and just enjoy life. It's been great."
She apparently got some blow back for her comments. "I love how everyone is like, ‘That's what 40 is?'" she said.
To her critics, she says, "Yeah, it's great!"
Ya gotta love Theron's outlook on life.
In fact, she said she made a decision a long time ago not to go too method in her acting, especially for movies like Dark Places. She plays a woman who is searching for the person who mass murdered her family when she was a little girl.
"I made a choice very early in my career that if my job was going to torture me, I love my life way too much to do that to myself. So I had to figure out a way to do it where I wasn't tortured," Theron said.
She usually spends time in her hair and makeup trailer before going home in order to let go of the darker aspects of her work.
"I actually did my own hair and makeup [for Dark Places]," Theron said. "I ended up alone on a street corner with no trailer, drinking an Amstel Light and going, ‘Let it go! Let it go! You're not going to the casino hotel this dark.'"
