Space Jam 2 May Finally Be Happening but Now People Don't Want LeBron James to Be in It: See the Unimpressed Tweets

Twitter has a lot of other suggestions as to who should play the sequel's requisite NBA superstar

Oh ye fickle basketball fans.

More than a year ago it was out there that LeBron James was Warner Bros.' No. 1 choice to star in Space Jam 2, the follow-up to the 1996 blockbuster (and animation-live-action hybrid classic) Space Jam—which of course starred the inimitable Michael Jordan.

Well, today Warner Bros. Entertainment announced a new TV-film-digital production deal with James, who pretty much stole every scene he's in in Trainwreck—a delightful surprise, perhaps, that helped bring this new deal to fruition. And that combined with the studio quietly filing new Space Jam trademarks last month... It seems like everything's a go for the sequel, starring LeBron.

But for some reason...the Twitterverse wasn't impressed.

Obviously plenty of LeBron fans are as psyched as ever, but maybe because he was just so good in Trainwreck, therefore eliminating that amateur-actor vibe, or perhaps because they think that James hooking up with a Hollywood studio is just too...Hollywood of him, everyone's a critic now.

And some of those critics have fired back with a plethora of other suggestions as to which other basketball player should play the sequel's requisite NBA superstar.

They do know, though, that—judging by the first film—there will be plenty of room for other players, right? Besides, so long as they get Bill Murray back (wishful thinking), who cares who else is in it?!

Anyway, here's a sampling of what the Siskel & Eberts of Twitter had to say (fun fact: being from Chicago, both late, great critics adored the original with Michael Jordan):
