The reality-TV star who has shot to the top of some polls for the GOP presidential nomination has been going at it with rival Republican candidate Lindsey Graham in recent days, but the real estate mogul kicked this feud into high gear when he decided to cross the line.
Trump was speaking at a rally Tuesday in Graham's home state of South Carolina, and began criticizing the senator, calling him a "lightweight" and an "idiot." Trumps insults were partially fueled by Graham blatantly labeling Trump as a "jackass" for his recent comments against Sen. John McCain.
Then things got even more interesting—Trump read Graham's phone number aloud and said "Give it a shot."
Oh yeah, he went there, and the number was legit, too. Graham posted on Twitter earlier today, "Probably getting a new phone. iPhone or Android?"
Shots were first fired after Trump declared that McCain, who famously spent five and a half years in a POW camp during the Vietnam War after being shot down in enemy territory, was not a war hero.
"What he said about John, I think, was offensive. He's becoming a jackass at a time when we need to have a serious debate about the future of the party and the country," Graham told CNN's Kate Bolduan.
"This is a line he's crossed, and this is the beginning of the end of Donald Trump ... I am really pissed."
After receiving a number of backlash following his diss at McCain, Trump somewhat backtracked, saying that McCain is a war hero, but criticizing his approach to veteran affairs. "I'm making the rounds all over the country and I see how badly our veterans are being treated," he said during an appearance on The O'Reilly Factor.
"And he's the guy—I mean he's supposed to be doing it. I see him on television all the time and he's always talking, talking but nothing gets done. These veterans are living in hell…if I become president the veteran's will be treated properly."
