Emma Watson Not the Target of Kidnapping Plot on the Set of Walt Disney's Live-Action Beauty and the Beast Film

"The story was looked into by production and found to be unsubstantiated and untrue," a spokesperson says

Emma Watson is safe and sound.

The Sun reported Sunday that sometime last week, two studio workers had discussed plans to abduct the 25-year-old actress from the set of Walt Disney Pictures' live-action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast. According to the British newspaper, a taxi driver overheard discussions between the employees and reported the conversation to his management, who in turn alerted studio staff.

"There was concern about her safety," a source told The Sun.

However, it appears Watson was never in real danger.

"The story was looked into by production and found to be unsubstantiated and untrue," a spokesperson told Vogue U.K. in a statement Monday.

E! News has reached out to Watson's rep for further comment.

Additionally, police told The Daily Mail, "Nothing has ever been reported to us."

Watson, who plays Belle in Beauty and the Beast, has been filming at Shepperton Studios in Surrey. The film's cast includes Luke Evans as Gaston; Josh Gad as LeFou; Kevin Kline as Maurice; Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Plumette; Audra McDonald as Garderobe; Ewan McGregor as Lumière; Ian McKellen as Cogsworth; Dan Stevens as the Beast; Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts; and Stanley Tucci as Cadenza.

Bill Condon (Dreamgirls, The Fifth Estate) is directing the film.

Alan Menken, who won two Academy Awards for his work on 1991's Beauty and the Beast, is scoring the reboot. Menken has also scored 1989's The Little Mermaid, 1992's Aladdin, 1995's Pocahontas, 1997's Hercules and 2010's Tangled.

According to a press release, the live-action movie will feature "new recordings of the original songs" in addition to new music written by Menken and Sir Tim Rice.

Watson confirmed her casting via Facebook in January. At the time, she admitted that "it almost feels surreal that I'll get to dance to 'Be Our Guest' and sing 'Something There'. My 6-year-old self is on the ceiling—heart bursting. Time to start some singing lessons," she wrote. "I can't wait for you to see it."

Speaking about the role with Total Film magazine in March, she added, "I sing, so that's really unexpected. I've never had to do that for a film before, and I think people will be interested to see me do something very different like that. It gives me a different challenge, really. That's terrifying in and of itself!"

Beauty and the Beast arrives in theaters March 17, 2017.
