The Walking Dead, Spinoff

Fear The Walking Dead may have some similarities (zombies) to the show that started it all, The Walking Dead, but it's not going to be a carbon copy. That's according to the people behind both shows.

"It is a family drama first and foremost, which I think evolves into a genre piece." executive producer Dave Erickson says in the video from set below. "And it's also an opportunity to introduce the new world we're going to inhabit."

Yes, they have a similar title, but Fear The Walking Dead will have its own "fingerprint" and its "own voice," according to executive producer Greg Nicotero—he's also the man behind the zombie goodness.

"Having society stripped from these people in real-time is going to make this show more emotional, so that's something that I'm really excited about," Robert Kirkman, executive producer and co-creator of The Walking Dead comic book, says.

"It's about the humanity within the genre," star Kim Dickens says.

The show, set in Los Angeles before the events of The Walking Dead, stars House of Cards' Dickens, Cliff Curtis, Frank Dillane and Alycia Debnam-Carey. The first season of six episodes premieres this August and a second season has already been ordered.

"I haven't worked with any of the walkers yet, I'm kind of scared. I don't know what they're going to look like," Dickens says in an interview during her fourth day of shooting.

Something tells us she's since encountered a walker since then.
