Courtesy Goodyear Police DepartmentWNBA star Brittney Griner and her fiancée Glory Johnson were arrested Wednesday evening on suspicion of assault and disorderly conduct after police responded to a domestic dispute at their new home outside of Phoenix.
Goodyear police spokeswoman Lisa Kutis confirmed that both athletes were arrested following a physical altercation, and that both were booked for the same charges.
According to the police report, the fight resulted in minor injuries to both 24-year-old basketball stars and one of Johnson's sisters called the police after the two ladies couldn't be separated.
The report further explained that Griner told officers that she and her fiancée were under a great deal of stress lately while they were in the process of planning their wedding.
WNBA spokesperson Dina Skokos released the following statement to E! News shortly after news of the arrests went public:
"We are aware of the incident involving Brittney Griner and Glory Johnson and are working with the Phoenix Mercury and Tulsa Shock organizations to obtain more information."
On Aug 14, 2014, Griner took to Twitter to announce that she proposed to her longtime girlfriend, saying, "Last Night was a Night to Remember I became the happiest person on this earth! (almost pass out but when that one word came out I came back to life) Me and my baby @missvol25 are in it for Life!"
Griner is a two-time WNBA All-Star for the Phoenix Mercury, as well as a former NCAA champion and the 2012 AP Division I Player of the Year.
Meanwhile, Johnson was named the SEC Defensive Player of the Year in 2012 at Tennessee before being picked No. 4 overall in the 2012 WNBA draft by the Tulsa Shock.
