The British singer has been spending time "watching late-night movies, enjoying home-cooked food and singing karaoke" and hanging out with his fiancée, Perrie Edwards, and friend and producer Naughty Boy, according to the U.K. newspaper The Sun, which posted a new interview with him on Sunday.
"All is good," Malik was quoted as saying. "I'm doing alright."
He made his comments at Naughty Boy's studio in London on Wednesday and arrived there in the evening looking "happy and relaxed," reported the newspaper, which was also the first outlet to interview Malik since his One Direction exit was announced on March 25.
"He just wants to get out of the house and comes here," the producer told The Sun. "He's doing things that he hasn't done for years. Coming to the studio is his way of chilling and he's here with his friends."
Malik is expected to launch a solo career. He was previously spotted at a recording studio after he left the band. On Friday, both men attended the Asian Awards, where Naughty Boy sat together at a table with Malik and presented him with an award for Outstanding Achievement in Music. The singer paid tribute to One Direction in a heartwarming acceptance speech.
Malik had before his departure taken a hiatus from the band's tour, citing stress, amid rumors he had cheated on Edwards, his fiancée since 2013. He later tweeted, "I'm 22 years old... I love a girl named Perrie Edwards...And there's a lot of jealous f--ks in this world I'm sorry for what it looks like x."
Malik talked to The Sun vaguely about his love life, past and present.
The "home-cooked food" Malik's been enjoying at home? He's the one who's doing the cooking, for himself and for his lady, the newspaper said. Malik's mother, Trisha, used to work as an elementary school chef. She was his date at the Asian Awards.
"I'm a good cook actually," Malik told The Sun. I do all the cooking — you can ask."
