Well, tonight was certainly a big night for Shailene Woodley!
She started things off by taking home the Best Female Performance award for her starring role in The Fault In Our Stars, and then she was presented with the Trailblazer Award for her already lofty career.
Woodley's pal and seemingly constant costar Miles Teller started things off by giving a touching speech about his real-life friend. In true Miles Teller fashion he eschewed the script that the MTV wrote for him and decided to simply rehash some of his favorite memories with Shailene—like the time they met for coffee and she showed up with her own mason jar full of water that she harvested from a spring that morning. (Classic Shailene!)
Shailene decided to do a little ad-libbing herself when she took the stage to accept the award, and presented the audience with some token Shailene-isms. (She also praised Miles for his work in Whiplash, saying "You made me cry, which is not that easy to do!")
"I realized that we can't fully be ourselves without a community," Woodley mused to the crowd. "Without people to reflect back to us who we really are."
Then it became clear that the busy actress didn't actually prepare a speech (maybe she should have brought some notes?) because she let out some laughs and bumbled "What am I trying to say? I just have no idea." But naturally she was able to pull it off with the typical Shailene charm—and she quickly got back on track.
"To all of you who have been pillars to me, thank you," she finished humbly before signing off with a joke. "I was gonna say let's blaze on but I don't know if I can say that! So, let's trailblaze on!"
