Out of all the characters on the hit FX drama who know or at least suspect that Gemma had a hand in murdering Jax's (Charlie Hunnam) wife Tara (Maggie Siff) at the end of the season six finale, the one to finally tell Jax the truth was his eldest son. And even though Gemma will do anything to protect her family—as is evident from Tara's grisly death-by-carving-fork—will she become so enraged that she'll seek out revenge on the 5-year-old in the final three episodes?!
"I think she would kill anybody," Sagal told a small group of reporters. "I do! At the end of the day, if it was to protect her grandchildren, her son or herself, I think she would kill anybody."
But Sagal said the only people safe from her wrath are Jax and her two grandsons—truth-telling Abel included.
"How can she do anything but forgive him, really?" Sagal said. "It's out of the mouth of babes. I wonder sometimes if Gemma really thought she could get away with all of this. I don't know! I don't think she has animosity towards her grandson whatsoever. You'll have to watch to see."
And let's be honest, Gemma deserves to have all of her lies exposed, seeing as how her one mistake with Tara sparked a bloody war that has no end in sight. The guilt is already weighing on the club mother so much that she's even started speaking to hallucinations of Tara!
"I think she believes that her momentary rageful act at the end of season six killing Tara was not premeditated," Sagal said. "She really did believe that Tara turned the entire club in and her son and it was the downfall of her entire existence. At that moment, it was the perfect storm. Not that she doesn't realize the heinous nature of it, but I do believe that before she was able to compartmentalize, and almost rationalize, and this one was too much for her."
Does Sagal think Gemma should get away with her crime or does she deserve to get punished?
"It's gone so far that to me, either way is horrible," Sagal said with a laugh. "You will see the way it all pans out but it's a tough call. But people do heinous things and still have lives. Oh yes, they do."
Now that Jax knows his mother killed his wife, expect to see Jax and Gemma's dynamic change in a major way (duh).
"I can tell you there's lots of tears that were shed," Sagal teased. "I'm excited for fans to see the conclusion. I feel like this season overall has been so strong in the character department. Not that there's not action. There's a lot of action. But there's also a lot of character conversation, slower beats, and the whole season has been a more fluid approach. I really enjoyed watching this year and I think all the characters have been serviced really well. I think it will be great for fans. I don't think they'll be disappointed at all."
