It looks like emerald-cut diamonds are so four years ago for Kate Hudson—now the actress is sporting an actual emerald!
Hudson, who has been engaged to Muse frontman Matthew Bellamy since April 2011, was spotted at the 2014 Baby2Baby Gala wearing a noticeably different bauble: A massive emerald set in a diamond-encrusted band. Kate's original ring—which clocked in at nearly 9 carats—is a sizeable platinum-set sparkler with tapered baguette diamonds on both sides.
While we wouldn't exactly call this a ring upgrade (c'mon, Kate's original diamond was gorgeous), the emerald is quite a stunner.
Kathryn Clark, a diamond expert with Eshed Diam, tells E! News that "there looks to be 1 to 2 carats of small, high-quality diamonds surrounding [the ring]."
"This looks like a Zambian emerald, and in the gem world has a lot of mystical meaning behind it. A deep green [emerald] like this one has a high price tag," Clark said.
Clark estimates that the emerald, which looks to be somewhere from 6 to 8 carats, could cost as much as $150,000, depending on the dealer.
This isn't the first time Kate has been spotted with a different ring on that finger: Back in April, the actress stepped out in Los Angeles to celebrate the Little Black Dress Collection for Ann Taylor wearing a vintage-style bauble with a ruby center. She paired the same ring with her white Atelier Versace gown at the 2014 Oscars.
While there is still speculation over when the couple will get married, Hudson and Bellamy seemed more in love than ever at the Gucci-hosted 2014 LACMA Art + Film Gala two weeks ago. And at that event, Kate was wearing her original emerald-cut sparkler that Bellamy gave her when they first got engaged.
We guess that Hudson just likes to switch things up—and when it comes to diamonds, the more the merrier, right?
