Jennifer Aniston has had one of the toughest roles in her career.

"It was honestly just playing her as truthfully as possible and the no makeup was a byproduct of what she had been through over the last few years," the actress told E! News of her Cake character during a screening at the film in New York City recently.

"So it really started with the physical research and the emotional research and that's sort of what was the final outcome."

Aniston plays Claire Simmons in the film, a woman who becomes fascinated by the suicide of a woman in her chronic pain support class, and develops a relationship with the woman's husband. Along with a makeunder, the role required Jen to go out of her comfort zone.

"It was the hardest job I've ever taken on and I've loved every second of it. This whole woman's life made me…we're always grateful and thankful or our health and what we don't have to suffer through," Aniston continued.

"It was hard. It was five weeks in and out and I was saying, you know it's a hard body to live in, but told a good story."

Aside from promoting her flick, Justin Theroux's lady is preparing for a festive Thanksgiving holiday. "Family tradition, the dinner—turkey dinner. Thanksgiving dinner with friends and family," she told us of her plans.

"I used to bring the spanakopita and the dolmades, but I'm not doing that. My grandmother's recipe takes me about seven hours."

Maybe Ed Sheeran can stop by again and help out?
