DirectorPeter Jacksonhas rolled out the final trailer forThe Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies—and it's safe to say fans willnotbe disappointed as we eagerly await for the release of highly anticipated flick in theMiddle-earth trilogy.
All our favorite characters, including Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman), Legolas (Orlando Bloom), Gandalf (Ian McKellan), Smaug (newly engagedBenedict Cumberbatch),Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage), Galadriel (Cate Blanchett) and Tauriel (Evangeline Lilly), are back for the epic battle, which sees Bilbo and his company of dwarves fighting to save Middle-earth after the wrath of Smaug was unleashed upon Laketown.
"These bats are bred for one purpose—for war," Bloom ominously says in the somber clip (while simultaneously making us swoon).
Cue action-packed scenes, wildly impressive CG effects and the most terrifying Orcs we've seen yet.
Following the release of the clip, Gandalf himself tweeted a link to the trailer for Jackson's final prequel flick to his critically acclaimed Lord of the Rings films, which are adapted from the works of J.R.R. Tolkien.
The New Zealand film director also recently spoke with USA Today and gave fans a sneak peek on what they can expect from the final film in the trilogy.
"The fate of Middle-earth is not really going to swing one way or the other," Jackson said. "But there's a lot of characters we've introduced, and some of them we like and some of them who we feel empathy for are going to behave badly because they're confronted with the ultimate test, which is massive wealth. And it brings out the worst in people."
"It's a very dangerous victory," producer/screenwriter Philippa Boyens added, noting that the last Hobbit is "moving toward the darkness of The Lord of the Rings. It has some pretty intense drama and gives actors a chance to sink their teeth into some of the stuff."
Meanwhile, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies hits theaters in 3-D and IMAX on Dec. 17.
