News shows are getting canceled left and right all of a sudden, so we're absolutely psyched to reveal that one of our favorite new shows just scored a second season pickup!
ABC Family's drama Chasing Life will return for season two, E! News has confirmed.
"Through the laughter and the tears, our audience has connected with the characters and relationships in Chasing Life and we are thrilled to continue telling April's courageous story," Karey Burke, Executive Vice President of ABC Family's Programming and Development, said. "Chasing Life has found a home here."
Chasing Life stars Italia Ricci as April, a twentysomething aspiring journalist whose life is finally coming together. She's moving up in her career as a journalist, getting big scoops for her newspaper, and scored the office hottie Dom (Richard Brancatisano) as her sweet boyfriend. But when a sudden cancer diagnosis rocks her world, she struggles with juggling her illness and her "normal" life.
Throughout the first half of the season, April kept her diagnosis a secret from her family, her coworkers and her boyfriend, and in the process bonded with fellow cancer patient Leo (Scott Michael Foster). When Dom finally found out about April's cancer while he was away on assignment, he returned to help her through chemo but was shocked to find out she'd been keeping her illness a secret for their entire relationship. In the midseason finale, that lie, plus finding out how close April had gotten with Leo, led Dom to break up with her.
And in a shocking cliffhanger, April saw Leo's parents crying in the hospital and received a mysterious voice mail from Leo, and viewers were left wondering if Leo ended up getting his risky, life-saving brain surgery or not...or if he was even still alive!
Star Italia Ricci tweeted the good news on Thursday, writing, "thank you to everyone who made this happen!"
Creator Patrick Sean Smith added, "There's more LIFE to CHASE!!! #season2 here we come!!!"
Chasing Life returns with an all-new Christmas-themed episode on Tuesday, Dec. 9 at 9 pm during ABC Family's 25 Days of Christmas.
