If you're a bird, I'm a bird. If you look even remotely like Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling, then you are Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling in your Notebook-themed engagement photos.
Just like this couple: Cindy Gauthier and Jean-Nicola Barile of Canada, who channeled Allie and Noah for their engagement pictures back in 2010. Now, as the epic romance turns 10 years old, the photos have gone viral again.
"It's just funny that it's, all of a sudden, resurfacing," Cindy told TODAY.com. "People that I didn't know then, particularly at work, are like, ‘Oh, my God! You're in those pictures!'"
The photos announcing their impending nuptials—which recreate everything from that famous kiss in the rain to splashing around in the ocean, and every adorable moment of swoon-worthy love in between—were shot by Chelsea Gray of Blushing Bride Studio.
"Cindy and Jean-Nicola are going to have quite the traditional wedding this September," Gray explained on her website at the time. "So I asked them if they'd like to go a little crazy on their engagement shoot." It was Cindy who suggested The Notebook, her favorite movie.
And we have to admit, the pictures turned out surprisingly sweet. It's easy to be cynical about engagement photos, for one, and especially engagement photos inspired by movies, but these are super cute.
It helps that the behind-the-scenes stories from the shoot are pretty darn cute themselves: "We actually did it with a hose," Gray says of the kissing-in-the-rain photo. "We just hosed them down. It was so much fun."
She continues, "[And] that red truck? We literally came across it [by coincidence]. It was just sitting on the side of the road. It was for sale, so we proceeded to help ourselves and sort of remove the sign for a few minutes, and just get in there and take pictures. That was an amazing fluke."
Four years later, Cindy and Jean-Nicola's romance is looking a lot like their movie counterparts, minus the Alzheimer's and the whole dying thing. They say they're still happily married and now have a 2-year-old son, London.
"We're two regular people, with regular jobs and a regular life," Jean-Nicola claims. "So, when you do a photo shoot like that, and get so much attention, yeah, it's pretty cool."
They're not the only couple who have ever attempted Notebook themed engagement photos, to varying levels of success. What we really want to see are Titanic-themed engagement photos. How romantic! But like, after the ship is sinking.
