In the ensemble comedy, a sequel to 2012's Think Like a Man, the couples are back. This time, though, they're taking on Sin City. Before Regina Hall and Terrence Jenkins' characters get married, the guys and girls try to out-do each other with their bachelor/bachelorette parties.
The cast, which also includes Kevin Hart, Meagan Good, Taraji P. Henson, Gabrielle Union, La La Anthony, Romany Malco, Michael Ealy and Dennis Haysbert is "outstandingly good-looking," notes Soren Anderson of the Seattle Times. He also praises the "enthusiastic" performances of the actors, describing the flick "a variation on The Hangover movies."
The "irrepressible" Hart "[carries] the film on his wee shoulders, relentlessly seeking another laugh," writes Steve Persail of the Tampa Bay Times. Mercedes J. Howze of the Chicago Defender also praises Hart as "beyond hilarious," but feels at times Think Like a Man Too turns into "the Kevin Hart Show." Even the New York Post's Sara Stewart, who says, among other things, that the sequel "[speaks] primarily in clichés," admits to finding some humor in Hart "sputtering indignantly at regular intervals, which he's pretty good at."
While the original 2012 movie is based on the wisdom from Steve Harvey's book, Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man, the sequel doesn't stick as closely to the relationship guru's words. "It's more of the same puerile gender politics," notes Barbara VanDenburgh of the Arizona Republic, "only this time with less Steve Harvey and much, much more Kevin Hart."
And like the first movie, which earned $33 million its opening weekend, knocking The Hunger Games from the top spot, Think Like a Man Too has gotten a few less favorable reviews. That said, both Variety and the Hollywood Reporter are predicting the sequel could take take the no. 1 spot this weekend at the box office, ousting 22 Jump Street and beating out Jersey Boys.
Think Like a Man Too hits theaters Friday.
