This seems pretty counterproductive when it comes to online dating (or just dating in general), but whatever floats your boat.
Match.com is now offering users a special upgrade that will connect them with a Los Angeles-based dating service called Three Day Rule. This service specializes in one very unique feature: pairing single folks up with people who look and act like past loves.
For $5,000(!), Three Day Rule will assign a user a special matchmaker, who will discuss dating preferences and habits, screen potential suitors and even analyze photos of your exes. The theory behind this? We all have a type.
"I've noticed over my years in matchmaking that people have types. People have a type and it's not necessarily about height or race or hair color, but a lot of it is about face shape," Three Day Rule founder Talia Goldstein said to Mashable. "I always ask my clients to send me photos of their exes. They say that they don't have a type, but when I see the photos, to me they look very similar. The ex's may be different ethnicities, or have different hair color, but their facial structures are the same."
But shouldn't the fact that these people are exes of the users mean they should be looking outside their type? The relationship didn't work out for a reason, so why bring them back together with someone who is just like the last person they dated? You know, the same person they eventually broke up with?
Seems fishy to us. Especially if the last relationship ended horribly. Then we bet people would pay $5,000 to never be with someone like their ex ever again. Maybe we should start a service that pairs people with the exact opposite of their previous boyfriends/girlfriends. We'll call it Branching Out (patent pending). Don't steal our idea!
