Ed Sheeran Likes "Going to Instagram and Stalking," Just Like a Non-Famous Person

British singer-songwriter, whose album Multiply comes out June 23, explains his love-hate relationship with social media during an appearance on E! News

Minus the impressive singer-songwriter talent and the 9.63 million Twitter followers, Ed Sheeran really is just a regular bloke.

Asked Tuesday during his visit to E! News whether he prefers Twitter or Instagram, he gave a very relatable answer—he prefers Twitter and only follows one person on Instagram, his manager, because he doesn't want his feed clogged up with nonsense!

"And I only follow him because you have to follow someone to get followers," Sheeran explained to inquiring minds Jason Kennedy and Jesse Giddings. "I didn't follow anyone and I was stuck on, like, 1.3 million...then I started following Stuart and it started going up again."

Oh, we hate it when we get stuck on 1.3 million followers! And does Sheeran get annoyed by the constant requests to follow him back?

"Yeah," he admitted.

"I like going to Instagram and, like, stalking, but I don't like going to Instagram and having everything there," the British singer, whose second album Multiply comes out next Tuesday, said. "Twitter's the worst because I followed so many people back in the day just to be polite all they do is retweet compliments...It's just all retweets!"

But yet he perseveres in the face of social media adversity, and has nearly 1.6 million followers on Instagram to show for it.

Meanwhile, despite evidence to the contrary, Taylor Swift's BFF insists that not all of his friends are famous.

Complimented on his loyalty to his mates, such as Courteney Cox and Jennifer Aniston, whom he spent Thanksgiving with, Sheeran protested, "I do have school friends as well...I sound like such an industry whore when you say it like that!"

He said that he does approach nights out with his industry pals a bit differently, however.

"In Hollywood I just kind of like to be open and go out and enjoy myself, and make stories," Sheeran said. "You know, make stories that I can tell in 20 years and be like, ‘That happened one time, that was pretty fun.'"

Speaking of which, the 23-year-old artist revealed that he was having drinks later tonight with a cast member from one of his favorite shows, Game of Thrones. (Watch the clip to find out who!)

Sheeran also enjoyed teasing Kennedy, telling the veteran E! newsman that he wasn't just an interview subject today but was actually participating in a trial run to take over Jason's job.

"This is to introduce me to the audience," Sheeran cracked. "But you're basically cut. They were like, 'Jesse and Ed, they have such good chemistry—J. not so much. He keeps turning up in a suit, this is a casual show, we've got to ease him into it.'"

Sounds like Sheeran has a sense of humor that would fit right in! (He couldn't pick a better team to work with, either—voting is underway now for the Daytime Emmys Fan Favorite Award, and E! News hosts Giuliana Rancic and Terrence Jenkins are both in the running. Vote here!)
