But rumors that the newly single pop diva is dating the Dancing With the Stars champ are just rumors for now.
J.Lo met Maks last November when they shared the stage at the 2013 American Music Awards during her tribute to Celia Cruz and have kept in touch, a source tells E! News. "They're friends," the insider adds.
Moreover, Maks is close with fellow DWTS pro Tony Dovolani, who has "remained on great terms with Leah Remini," one of Lopez's best friends, since being partnered with her on season 17.
"Leah and Jennifer are best friends," the source adds. "So as a group, they're all very friendly. [Maks is] in India and [J.Lo's] at the World Cup right now. Who knows what could happen down the road?"
Reps for Maks and J.Lo had no comment.
Maks and his winning DWTS partner Meryl Davis were just the subject of heated dating rumors, with interviewer Wendy Williams ultimately asking them point-blank if they were sleeping together. Or dating, whichever.
The answer was no, but the Ukrainian-born hunk has declared his platonic love for the Olympic gold-medalist ice dancer many times over. His romantic history includes a relationship with DWTS' Karina Smirnoff and a fling with Kate Upton.
Lopez, meanwhile, recently split up with dancer-choreographer Casper Smart after nearly two years of dating.
She is in Brazil now and will help kick off the World Cup at tomorrow's opening ceremony, featuring J.Lo, Pitbull and Claudia Leitte performing the tournament's official theme song, "We are One (Ole Ola)."
