Talk about a friend to the cops.

David Schwimmer helped the NYPD solve a stabbing crime after he showed cops surveillance video that captured footage of a drunken argument between a male prostitute and his john that escalated into a stabbing, E! News has confirmed.

According to the New York Post, the bloody brawl went down at 5:40 a.m. on the first floor of a neighboring building, with the men taking their fight into a hallway and eventually smashing through a glass lobby door.

The 26-year-old john was rushed to Bellevue Hospital with stab wounds to the face, while the 21-year-old prostitute was treated for slashes on his arm at Beth Israel Medical Center.

Both men are now in custody with charges pending.

As for what started the fight, the mag reported that the john refused to pay the prostitute for his services, so the prostitute took his computer.

Before Schwimmer showed cops the footage, they were relying on the stories of the two men involved and had nothing else to go on (Schwimmer's rep declined to comment on the incident).

Last August, East Village locals weren't exactly huge fans of the actor living near them, after he purchased a townhouse in the neighborhood, demolished it and started building a new townhouse, which caused quite a bit of noise from construction.

Someone even spray painted a graffiti message that read "Ross is not cool" with an arrow pointing to the construction fence surrounding his townhouse, referring to his character on Friends.

Perhaps he's all good with the neighbors now.
