Weatherman Rescues Lost Kitten Found in Tornado Debris, Reunites Him With His Family

WHIO's Rich Wirdzek calls the little kitty a "glimmer of hope" after Ohio's recent tornadoes

This is Rich Wirdzek, a meteorologist for News Center 7. After a massive tornado struck the town of Cedarville, Ohio last week, Wirdzek went out to survey the damage.

The tornado tore through the town, with winds up to 145 mph causing massive destruction in its wake. Amid that rubble, Wirdzek heard meowing and found a little kitten.

According to WHIO, the kitten belonged to a family whose home and barn were destroyed in the storm. The kitten was part of a new litter born in their barn, but the family thought they were lost for good.

After warming up in the news van, the kitten was reunited with his family. Two more kittens survived and were found in the debris, and they were all named Twister, Storm, and Lucky.

"In a tragic situation, this little glimmer of hope," Wirdzek told WHIO. "It was really nice to have that happen." He says it "made everyone's day." Watch the touching footage below:
